Nintendo Switch 2

Switch 2 Joy-Cons may have mouse functionality

The Switch 2 was announced on January 16, so it’s about time I talked about it. The Switch 2 looks similar to its predecessor, with a few improvements. It had colored rings around the joy-cons, a dock with slightly more rounded edges, and a U-shaped kickstand.

The next thing shown in the video was the most exciting – The Joy-cons slip into an attachment with the magnets and skates around the screen as if it’s being used as a mouse. The video was the only thing shown for this feature so it’s not entirely clear that’s what it’s for, but it seems likely.

It could be used to browse around the operating system, or perhaps we’ll be able to play games directly with it. The idea of playing video games with just a mouse sounds like it wouldn’t be very comfortable, but this is Nintendo we’re talking about and I’m sure they have some creative use up their sleeve for the feature.

I could see a mouse making playing a strategy game such as Civilization 7 significantly more comfortable, or even for building levels in Super Mario Maker. Whatever it is, I’m always glad to have more options at my disposal.

I write about video games for consoles and PC. I tend to gravitate to RPG's, looter shooters, hero shooters, and the occasional 4x or card game. I'm a big fan of the Witcher Series (but not the netflix series) and the Destiny franchise, but I play nearly every big release that comes out with indie games sprinkled into the mix.
